Peter Schamoni

Filmmaker out of affection and real love

Director and producer Peter Schamoni (1934-2011) made more than 30 feature films and documentaries. His first film "Schonzeit für Füchse" (1965) ushered in the first wave of New German Cinema, while his greatest success as a producer was "Zur Sache, Schätzchen". Since the 1970s he has produced various portraits of artists "out of affection and real love" (Alexander Kluge). "Hundertwasser's Rainy Day "(1973) was nominated for an Oscar in the documentary category. Alexander Kluge on the question of which film of Schamoni's one should watch: "Hard to say. All his films about Max Ernst, of course. But also his feature films. Oh, one would have to watch his entire oeuvre! That's just how we auteur filmmakers deal with each other: We see each other as a whole." (Photo: filmportal.de)
